My Dear Family of Our Lady of Lourdes,

Happy Mother’s Day!
I hope our mothers have a wonderful day today and get a feel for just how much we love them and thank God for them. As I am sure you heard me say once or twice I think that the unconditional love we receive from our parents is the closest we get here on earth to the love that God has for us. Our mothers show us and our world a way of living, a way of loving, which transforms both the ones who are loved and the one loving. We need them. Our world needs them.

It would bring our moms great honor if we would follow their example and love others in the way that they have loved us that is to say for their own sake and not for what they can do for us. The conflict and tension that surrounds us would be transformed into an atmosphere of security and joyful expectation. We would set others free to believe that what they hope for is possible and to trust that they are not alone in this world. And that would change everything.

Mother’s Day weekend is also Ordination weekend in the Archdiocese of Miami. On Saturday, the Archbishop ordains 9 new priests to serve us here in Miami. Let us keep them in our prayers as they enter the presbyterate of the Archdiocese of Miami and begin their ministry among us.

For today, though, let us concentrate on our moms. Thank you for loving us.
